Abstract

The elderly population in Indonesia globally will continue to increase, increasing the number of elderly need special attention and treatment. Elderly will experience the aging process characterized by decreased physical endurance and susceptible to disease one of them hypertension. Family participation in elderly care with hypertension is also very influential in helping control blood pressure. It is also supported by good knowledge also about hypertension disease. The purpose of this study is to know the description of family knowledge about elderly care with hypertension in Puskesmas Gamping II Sleman Yogyakarta. This research uses descriptive method. The subjects of this study are families who have elderly with hypertension, amounting to 47 people. This research was conducted on March 7 to May 30, 2017. The location of this research is at Puskesmas Gamping II Sleman Yogyakarta. The instrument used is a questionnaire. Data analysis uses frequency distribution. The result of this research is that family knowledge based on age characteristic is 38% age 26-35 years old, 83% female, 36% educated S1/Diploma, and 38% not working. The result of family knowledge about elderly care with hypertension is 68% good and 32% enough. The conclusion of this research is family knowledge about elderly care with hypertension in Puskesmas Gamping II Sleman Yogyakarta in good category that is 68%.
