Abstract

Background : The parents’ knowledge, especially the mothers in dental care has a significant influence on dental and oral health in toddlers because mothers are the closest people to them. Based on the results of Baseline Health Research in 2018, stated that the index of dental caries in Indonesians from one adult totalled 32 on average there were seven teeth damaged, while 93% of early childhoods have cavities. Research Objectives: To know the level of knowledge about dental and oral health and the efforts to prevent deciduous caries in mothers of toddlers in Pagak Indah Village, Banyuurip, Purworejo. Research Methods: The research method was descriptive research with a cross-sectional survey research design. The samples of the study were 20 mothers of toddlers. Sampling by purposive sampling and analyzed using cross-tabulation. Research Results: The results showed that: The mothers’ knowledge about dental and oral health including at high criteria as many as 15 people (75%). Most of them made efforts to prevent deciduous caries in toddlers with good category as many as 13 people (65%). Conclusion: Most of the mothers (65%) have known about dental and oral health with high criteria and the efforts to prevent dental caries in toddlers in good category.
