Abstract

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN PARENTS ROLE IN MAINTAINING DENTAL AND ORAL HEALTH WITH STATUS CARIES IN MENTAL RETARDATION CHILDREN OF EXTRAORDINARY SCHOOL (SLB) C Dian Marlina*, Ta’adi, Siti Hidayati Dental Nursing Department of Health Polytechnic of Health Ministry Yogyakarta Jl. Kyai Mojo No.54 Pingit, Yogyakarta Email : dianmarlina73@gmail.com ABSTRACT Background: a mental retardation child can’t maintain their own dental cleanness due to their capability. An optimal role of parents is expected to make them independent in maintaining their dental and oral cleanness. Those, status caries may be minimalized. Research Objective: To discover the correlation between parents role in maintaining dental and oral health with status caries in mental retardation children of SLB C. Research Method: This research was an analytical survey research with cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted on moderate mental retardation children in SLB Negeri 2 Yogyakarta. Total sampling methode was used for 30 students. The data was analyzed using Kendall’s Tau. The result of the research shows that most of parents role had an adequate role in amount of 14 (46,7%) with status caries of the respondents which classified as medium in amount of 10 (33,3%). Conclusion: There was a correlation between parents role in maintaining dental and oral health with status caries of mental retardation children.
