Abstract

Background of study : Urbanization is one of the factors that increase population density in the cities. The increase of population density in the cities influences the urban planning of these cities, especially in relation to settlement area. As a result, the risk of fire accidents rise in line with the high frequency of activities. Thus, it is essential to educate citizens about fire mitigation as early as possible. Mitigation puzzle is educational learning media with appropriate method that can be used to familiarise children with fire mitigation. Aim of study : To find out children’s, aged 7-11, knowledge of and attitude to fire mitigation at Jetisharjo. Research method : This research belongs to quasy eksperimen category with Non Equivalent Kontrol Group. The research was conducted during May 2018. The population of this study were children aged 7-11 at Jetisharjo Village. 30 children were chosen as sample, in which 15 belonged to the eksperimen group and the rest to the kontrol group. The data were then analyzed using Mann Whitney and Paired T Test. Result : The result of Mann Whitney and Independent t-Test with α=0,05 shows that there is a significant influence of using fire mitigation puzzle towards the increase of children’s knowledge and attitude with Asym. Sig (2-tailed) 0,037 and 0,030. The increase of knowledge is as high as31% and attitude as high as 15%. Keywords : fire mitigation puzzle, knowledge, attitude
