Abstract

Background: Brushing teeth is one way of removing plaque. The effectiveness of brushing teeth depends on several things, including the method of brushing your teeth, the duration of brushing, the shape of the toothbrush, and the frequency of brushing your teeth. The choice of toothbrush type needs to be considered in relation to its use in cleaning teeth and mouth. The results of a preliminary study conducted by interviewing mothers in Kalibanjar hamlet regarding the knowledge of mothers about the health of brushing their teeth showed that 60% of mothers did not know about brushing and 55% used a soft-bristled toothbrush. Purpose of the study: To knows the descrition of mothers knowledge about brushing their teeth using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a medium-bristled toothbrush Methods: This research method is a descriptive study with a cross sectional approach. The aspects studied were a description of the mother's knowledge about brushing her teeth and the use of soft and medium-bristled toothbrushes. The population of this study were 33 respondents. Sampling with total sampling and analyzed using cross tabulation. Data collection using a questionnaire. Results: The results showed that: The knowledge of mothers about brushing teeth was good as many as 9 respondents (27.3%), moderate as many as 13 respondents (39.4%), and bad as many as 11 respondents (33.3%). Mothers using soft-bristled toothbrushes were 20 respondents (60.6%) and bristled teeth were 13 respondents (39.4%). 10 respondents with moderate knowledge and using a soft-bristled toothbrush (50%). Conclusion: The description of the knowledge of mothers about brushing their teeth was mostly moderate with the use of soft bristled toothbrushes on mothers in Kalibanjar Hamlet.
