Abstract

Background: Permanent tooth loss that is not promptly replaced can impair mastication, speech, and aesthetics. The use of Removable Partial Dentures (RPDs) is one solution to replace missing teeth. Based on the preliminary study, 80% of patients who had undergone permanent tooth extraction had low levels of knowledge and motivation regarding the use of removable partial dentures (RPDs). Objective: To determine the effectiveness of POSGISEL (Removable Partial Denture Poster) as an educational medium in improving knowledge and motivation regarding the use of RPDs among patients following permanent tooth extraction. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. The research instruments consisted of the POSGISEL poster and questionnaires measuring knowledge and motivation. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. Results: Respondents’ knowledge increased from the moderate category (73.3%) before the intervention to the high category (100%) after receiving education through POSGISEL. Motivation also increased from the moderate category (80%) to the high category (93.3%). The Wilcoxon test results showed an Asymp. Sig. value of <0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in both knowledge and motivation after the intervention. Conclusion: POSGISEL is effective in improving knowledge and motivation regarding the use of removable partial dentures among patients following permanent tooth extraction.
