Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease that threatens the country's health development with one of the complications that disturb the patient's comfortable sense of amputation, which begins with foot ulcers. Foot ulcers can be prevented with foot care that is a foot examination and prevention of external injuries to the feet. Puspose : describes the application of foot care and identifies the results of application as well as the difference in response of both patients to the application of foot care. Method: The method used is descriptive with case study design on applying foot care to two diabetes mellitus patients and their family. Results: The results of the case studies show the similarities of both patients: increased moisture, foot and nail hygiene, but there is also a difference in response to the knowledge that the first patient can correctly the eight steps of foot care while and the second patient is only right five steps, in addition to the independence of second patient foot care better than the first patient. Conclusion: foot care can improve moisture, foot and nail hygiene and minimize the risk of infection. Knowledge of foot care is affected by age, experience and level of education. Independence is influenced by psychological factors.
