Abstract
Background: The most common response in pre anesthesia patients is the psychological response of anxiety. Pre Anesthesia's anxiety can make post-anesthetic complications including PONV. The incidence of PONV by 30% of patients undergoing general anesthesia in Hospital of Yogyakarta. PONV events need to get serious handling because it can make the length of hospitalization is longer and harm many people. Objectives: Knew the correlation between pre anesthesia anxiety and postoperative nausea vomiting in patients with general anesthesia in hospital of Yogyakarta Method: This research was an observational analytic that used quantitative method and queconsecutive sampling consisting of 42 respondents with an anxiety assessment instrument accorded to APAIS and PONV observation sheet with Chi Square analysis. Results: The majority of respondents were females, there were 27 respondents (64.3%), 36-45 years old (54.8%), high school (78.6%), ASA I (88.7%) , Passive smoker (64.3%), with duration of operation <60 minutes (78.6%) experienced anxiety with the highest category of moderate anxiety was 35 respondents (83.3%) and patients who experienced nausea as many as 11 people (26.2%). Pre Anesthesia anxiety was related to PONV incidence with significance value (p) 0.021 or (0.021 <0.05) so it stated that pre anesthesia anxiety was related to PONV incidence with Contingency coefficient (r) of 0.394 or low correlation. Conclusion: There was correlation between pre anesthesia anxiety with Postoperative Nausea Vomiting occurrence in patients with general anesthesia.
