Abstract
Background : Waste management is a systematic, comprehensive, and sustainable activity that includes waste reduction and handling. SMP N 1 Lendah Kulon Progo has carried out waste management, namely sorting by distinguishing bins, but in disposing of waste it is still mixed together. Objective : This study aims to determine waste management in SMP N 1 Lendah Kulon Progo in 2023. Method : This type of research is a descriptive survey by making direct observations and then describing or describing the situation. Data collection was carried out by direct observation and interviews with Adiwiyata managers. The data obtained was matched with SNI_19-2454-2002 concerning Procedures for Operational Techniques for Urban Waste Management analyzed descriptively and conclusions were drawn. Result : SMP N 1 Lendah Kulon Progo has made efforts to manage waste. Waste generation for five days on November 27 - December 01, 2023 for organic waste amounted to 186.04 kg, and inorganic amounted to 118.27 kg. The source of waste at SMP N 1 Lendah comes from activities in the canteen, classrooms, teachers' room, TU, yard, and mosque. Waste reduction, namely the 3Rs, has been carried out. Waste handling, namely the availability of trash bins according to their type. Dumping has met the requirements but the waste is still mixed together. Waste collection has met the requirements. Organic waste processing, namely composting but not carried out again due to the co-19 pandemic. Conclusion : SMP N 1 Lendah Kulon Progo has made efforts to manage waste, but there are still things that need to be improved including processing, containerization and also the awareness of school residents in disposing of waste according to its type is still lacking.
