Abstract

Background: One of the factors that causes dental and oral health problems in fixed orthodontic treatment is the lack of knowledge about maintaining dental and oral health. A preliminary study conducted at a dental clinic found that 70% of respondents had insufficient knowledge about dental and oral hygiene. Promotive efforts are a way to increase knowledge and individual awareness in preventing the severity of dental and oral diseases through Leafblog counseling media. Research Objective: To determine the effect of leafblog media on knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance of fixed orthodontic users at a dental clinic. Research Method: Quantitative research method with Quasi Experimental research type and pretest-posttest control group design. The independent variable of this study is Leafblog media and the dependent variable is knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance of fixed orthodontic users. This study was conducted at a dental clinic. The research sample was 64 respondents. The sampling technique was Accidental Sampling. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U Test. Results: The level of knowledge of respondents before being given counseling with Leafblog media was in the sufficient category (62.5%), after being given counseling with Leafblog media was in the good category (90.6%). The results of the Wilcoxon analysis in the experimental group p-value 0.000 <0.05, for the control group p-value 0.004 <0.05. Analysis with Mann Whitney obtained a p value of 0.004 meaning p value <0.05 (Ha accepted and Ho rejected). Conclusion: Leafblog media has an influence on increase the knowledge of maintaining dental and oral health of fixed orthodontic users in dental clinics.
