Abstract
Malaria is a serious and fatal infectious disease caused by the protozoan parasite of the genus Plasmodium which is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. There have been many efforts to prevent malaria, including the control of mosquitoes itself and protection against mosquito bites. Currently, vector disease control still relies on the use of insecticides. Based on these reasons, it is necessary to find alternative insecticides other than synthetic insecticides in an effort to control disease vectors. Chrysanthemum flowers (Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium) are also an alternative that can be used as a botanical insecticide. The purpose of this study was to prove the effect of various concentrations of Chrysanthemum flower extract (Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium) on the fecundity and fertility rates of Anopheles sp. in the laboratory, so that the final product can be used as a non-chemical insecticide which can reduce the population of the Malaria vector mosquito. This type of research used in this research is quasi-experimental (quasi-experimental). The research design used was a static group comparison design where the measurement results in the treatment group (0,05%; 0,1%; and 0,2% consentration) were compared with the measurement results in the control group, while the control group did not get any treatment or intervention. The results of this study based on the ANOVA test show that there is a difference in the decrease in the fertility rate and the fecundity of Anopheles sp. which is significant among the variations in the treatment used. In line with the results of the linear regression test, which is every 1% increase in the concentration of Chrysanthemum flower extract can increase 5.565% decrease in fertility and fecundity of Anopheles sp. The conclusion of this study is that the Chrysanthemum flower’s concentration of 0.2% has the most effect on decreasing fecundity and fertility of Anopheles sp. which means that the higher the concentration used is in line with the decrease in the fecundity rate and the fertility rate. Keywords : Chrysanthemum flower’s extract, fecundity, fertility, Malaria, Anopheles sp.
