Abstract

Background: The tendency of dental caries prevalence is still high, for instance, dental caries frequency of preschool children in Jakarta is 85.17% and so 75% of 3 to 5 year age children in Yogyakarta have def-t of 5.19. In this age, we should not only consider the amount of dental caries but also dental caries severity and carbohydrate consumption. Objective: To examine the relationship between carbohydrate consumption and severity of dental caries of preschool children. Method: This research using the method of crossectional and random sampling, Two kindergarten schools in Depok Sub district were choosed as the sample, TK.K Demangan Baru as the representative of the Urban and TK.PKK. Maguwoharjo as the representative of the rural. The subject of the study are 50 of the urban preschool children and 50 of the rural preschool children. Data collecting in this study include food pattern, characteristic of respondent, oral hygiene, and level of dental caries severity.
