Abstract

Hypertension is a common public health problem. Uncontrolled hypertension can lead to degenerative diseases, such as congestive heart failure, kidney failure, and vascular disease. Hypertension is called “silent killer”. Event tough it’s an incurable disease prevention and management effort can reduce the incidence of hypertension and it’s complication. The objective is to identify the corelation between celery juice (Apium graveolens) consumption and the blood pressure of essential hypertension patient. The study uses quasi experimental with pre-post test with control design. We perfomed random sampling technique as a sampling method, ad we use Mann-Whitney test for the statiscal analysis. The was a mean reduction of blood pressure in essential hypertensive patients after the administration of celery juice with 3.88 g / kg for 7 days following the systolic pressure of 38.87 mmHg in the treatment group and 22.13 mmHg in the control group with p value of 0.000 (p < 0,05) and the mean reduction in diastolic pressure of 39.23 in the treatment group and 21.77 mmHg in the control group with p value of 0.000 ( p <0.05). Conclusion: there is a significant effect of celery juice consumption in lowering the blood pressure in patients with essential hypertensive.
