Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Root canal treatment is the most used endodontic treatment for a long-time teeth maintenance. The number of visits for the root canal treatment for the period of July to September 2020 was 70%, with the diagnosis of pulpal gangrene at the first rank, and the pulpitis at the second rank within the Top Ten Dental and Oral Diseases at the dental and oral polyclinic of Ulin General Hospital of Banjarmasin (RSUD Ulin Banjarmasin). Non-compliance during treatments can lead to maltreatment that causes such treatments must be repeated. Research Objective: To discover the relationship between the oral-dental health knowledge and the recurrent visit compliance of the patients with root canal treatment at Ulin General Hospital of Banjarmasin. Research Method: This is an analytical observational research with the cross-sectional approach. For the research samples (respondents), they were the patients having the root canal treatment with the total visit time of 4 to 5 times; a total of 36 people. The research was conducted in August to September 2020. The data analysis used the Spearman’s Rho non-parametric correlation test. Research Results: There were 21 patients or respondents (58.3%) whose oral and dental knowledge belongs to the good criterion, and there were 23 patients (63.9%) whose recurrent visit compliance belongs to the comply criterion. Based on the analysis results of the Spearman’s Rho Test, the value for the correlation coefficient result was 0.811** with the asymp.sig.p value of 0,000 < α 0,05, meaning that there was a significant relationship between the patients’ knowledge level regarding oral and dental health, and the recurrent visit compliance of the patients with root canal treatment at the Oral and Dental Polyclinic of Ulin General Hospital of Banjarmasin. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship (Sig. p 0,000 < α 0,05) between the oral-dental health knowledge and the recurrent visit compliance of the patients with root canal treatment at Ulin General Hospital of Banjarmasin. Keywords: Oral and dental health knowledge, Visit compliance, Root canal treatment
