Abstract

ABSTRACT Ministry of Health of Republic of Indonesia Polytechnic of Health, Yogyakarta Environmental Health Department Scientific Paper, June 2008 May Suci Ernawati THE UTILIZATION OF FIBER SOLID WASTE FROM SUGAR PALM FLOUR INDUSTRY AS DUCK FEED MIXTURE xvi + 54 Pages + xvi Appendixes Waste is a logical consequence for every human activity. At Pati Onggok Industrial Estate which located on Margoluwih village, Klaten, the liquid and solid waste produced consists of tree bark and sugar palm fiber. One of the solutions to process the waste is to utilize them as additional substance for livestock feed, because based on the examination conducted at Health Laboratory Agency of Yogyakarta, sugar palm fiber contain 3,59% protein. The study was aimed to understand the influence of the feed which has been added by various concentration of sugar palm fiber waste towards the increase of duck weight. The feeding was conducted in 21 days. The study was an experiment with Pre-test and Post-test with Control Group design. Population in this research is all of fiber solid waste from sugar palm flour industry. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah semua serat limbah padat tepung aren A total of 33,75 kg wet sugar palm fiber waste was used. The study was conducted between 4th and 25th May 2008. The results were descriptively displayed in a weekly cumulative table. On the first week, the duck weight in the treatment 1, 2, 3 groups and the control group were 116,45; 114,85; 114,1 and 116,5 gr respectively. Meanwhile, on the second and the third week, the measurement of those parameters were : 256,35; 250,5; 249,35; 257,25 gr and 365,1; 355,25; 347,25; 365,05 gr. The subsequent statistical examination using one way Anova test showed that the increase of duck weight within those three weeks feeding were not statistically different. However, a further examination using LSD test showed that in first and second week dosen’t have a meaning between experiment group with control group, in third week experiment 1 and 2 with control, but there meaning in experiment 1 and control with experiment 3. It can be concluded that in the period of 21 days, compared with the other two variations, the addition of 2,5 kg sugar palm fiber into duck feed give the best influence for increasing duck weight. Literature : 11 books (1989 - 2006) Keyword : Sugar palm fiber waste, duck, duck weight.
