Abstract
THE DIFFERENCES IN NUTRITIONAL STATUS BETWEEN ELDERLY PATIENTS USING AND NOT USING DENTURES AT UMBULHARJO II PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER Widiya Ulfa*, Herastuti Sulistyani, Furaida Khasanah Dental Nursing Department Poltekkes Kemenkes Yogyakarta Jl. Kyaimojo no.56, Pingit, Yogyakarta Email: widiyaulfa1996@gmail.com ABSTRACT Background: Tooth loss is one of the dental and oral health problems that can affect nutrition in old age. Data on the prevalence of tooth loss based on a preliminary study in Umbulharjo II Public Health Center was 70%. Rehabilitation of the teeth is needed to improve the nutritional status of the elderly. Objective: To investigate the differences in nutritional status of elderly patients who are users and not denture users at the Umbulharjo II Public Health Center. Research Method: This type of research was analytic observational research, with cross sectional design. This research was conducted on October 2019. The sampling technique of this study was using accidental sampling with a sample of 57 people and was based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Nutritional status was measured using the Body Mass Index (BMI). Results: The nutritional status of elderly patients mostly has normal criteria (82,5%) and elderly patients mostly do not use dentures (51%). The nutritional status of elderly patients using denture mostly has normal criteria (85,7%), and the nutritional status of elderly patients not using denture mostly also has normal criteria (79,3%). Mann Whitney U Test shows that the statistical test result with p value was (0,026). Conclusion: The nutritional status of elderly patients using denture has a significant difference from the nutritional status of elderly patients not using denture.
