Abstract

THE CORRELATIONBETWEEN THE LEVEL OF ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT NEEDS AND INTEREST IN USING ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCE AMONG CHILDREN WITH CROWDED TEETH IN SMP TAMAN DEWASA Syifaul Aini*, Herastuti Sulistyani, Sutrisno Dental Nursery Department of Poltekkes Kemenkes Yogyakarta Jl. Kyai Mojo no. 56, Pingit, Yogyakarta 555234 tel. 0274-514306 *Email : ainisyifaul0@gmail.com ABSTRACT Background: Based onRiskesdas report (2013), the prevalence of malocclusion in Indonesia was around 80% of the population. The number increases compared with the report of Riskesdas (2007), which was 23.2%. Interest in malocclusion treatment may increase by knowing orthodontic treatment needs using Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need as a reference. If the interest for malocclusion treatment increases, orthodontic treatment needs will also increase. Research Purpose: To investigate the correlationbetween the level of orthodontic treatment needs and interest in using orthodontic appliance among children with crowded teeth in SMP Taman Dewasa Research Method: This study used cross sectional analytical survey. The sampling used total samplingwith 30 respondents. The research period was October - November 2019. Data was collected by examining the orthodontic treatment needs using index of orthodontic of treatment need and questionnaire to measure interest to use orthodontic appliance among children with crowded teeth. Data analysis usedRank SpearmancorCorrelationtest. Research Result: The present study found that orthodontic treatment needs among children with crowded teeth was moderate/borderline (66,7%).Most students with crowded teeth had high interest in using orthodontic appliance (66,7%).The result of significance test of orthodontic treatment needs and interest in using orthodontic applicant is p = 0.010, meaning there was significant correlationbetween the level of orthodontic treatment needs and interest in using orthodontic appliance. Conclusion: The level of orthodontic treatment needs had significant correlationwith interest in using orthodontic applianceamong children with crowded teeth.
