Abstract
Banana midrib liquid contains secondary metabolites of phenol compounds such as saponins, glycosides and tannins and in aloe vera contains useful chemical compounds, such as flavonoids, tannins, polyphenols and saponins which have the ability to clean and antiseptic fibers of good washing materials. Therefore, to obtain the optimal formula as a hand sanitizer a variation of the comparison between banana midrib and aloe vera liquid is used. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a mixture of banana midrib and aloe vera mixture as a natural hand sanitizer to decrease the number of hand germs. This research is an experimental study with the design of "One Group Pre-Post Test Design". The results of this study are a decrease in the number of hand germs. The subjects of this study were 36 students of the Environmental Health Department of the Yogyakarta Ministry of Health Polytechnic, which were divided into 4 groups, namely the control group, the ratio of 1: 1, 2: 1 and 1: 2. Germ samples were obtained from palm swabs, then grown on Plate Count Agar media. The test is done by rubbing each variation 9 times. The result is the use of hand sanitizer from banana midrib and aloe vera is able to reduce the number of hand germs by 51.98% in a ratio of 1: 1, in a variation of a ratio of 2: 1 which is 59.28% and a ratio of 1: 2 which is 89.2% but there is no significant difference with a value> 0.721 (p <0.05). The conclusion is there is no difference in effectiveness in reducing the number of hand germs between the three variations of comparison.
