Abstract

Using of hearing protection equipment (HPE) as an effort to prevent a decrease in the hearing threshold. Many stone crusher workers are not wearing HPE while working at workplaces with noise intensities >85 dB. This study aims to level of discipline the use of HPE on workers and hearing threshold of workers. The study used survey method with cross sectional design. The population of this study stone crusher workers UD.Watu Ireng. The samples in this study amounted to 17 people by using purposive sampling. Level of discipline the use of HPE data were gathered with questionnaire and checklist, as well as for variables hearing threshold with audiometer. The results showed that level of discipline the use of HPE discipline category 35,29% and undisciplined category 64,71%. While check up result hearing threshold normal category 58,82% and mild deafness category 41,18%. Based on the test with Chi-Square on α = 0,05 showed there is no relationship between discipline using of HPE with hearing threshold, and no relationship between working period with hearing threshold, and showed relationship between age with hearing threshold. The conclusion of this study level of discipline the use of HPE in stone crusher UD.Watu Ireng undisciplined category 64,71% and hearing threshold normal category 58,82%. Suggestions from this study provide HPE, disseminate to workers related to the impact of noise, and supervision of workers.
