Abstract

Water as substance that is very important for the life of a living collection. One problem that often occurs is the high level of water hardness that causes crusting on household appliances and if consumed continuously it will affect the human kidney. The aim of the study is to determine the level of well water hardness before and after filtration using resin media, zeolite, activated carbon, combined media of resin-zeolite-activated carbon, and the ability of the highest media to reduce the hardness of well water. The research is pre-experiment research, namely the absence of control groups with one group research design pretestposttest design, by the number of treatments as many as four experimental groups. Samples were taken from well water in Kunden, Sendangsari, Pajangan, Bantul. The results of the study indicate that the resin filter ability is 89.59%, zeolite media is 29.86%, activated carbon media is 11.17% and the combined media of of resin-zeolite-activated carbon 1: 1: 1 is 71.86%. Based on the results of the treatment carried out, all filter media used to treat well water are able to reduce the level of hardness with varying abilities and the ability of the highest resin media to reduce the hardness of well water compared to other media.
