In order to fulfill the public needs, Yogyakarta City has developed three puskesmas that provide similar caring as hospitals do. They are called community health centre (Puskesmas) with in patient care. The amount of solid medical wastes yielded by these health cetres is potentially large, so that paying more attention in the waste management process is required. The purpose of the research was to understand the technical and management aspect of sorting, collecting, temporary storing, and transporting of the solid medical waste, by conducting a descriptive study. The study found that: 1)the sorting activities were held by medics and paramedics and are funded from regular budget of Yogyakarta Health Office and operational budget of the health cares, there is no SOP existed for sorting, and some discrepancies still found in the containing activity. Meanwhile, the indisciplined use of personal protective devices has led to 23,8% of occupational accidents. The equipments used were infectious and pharmaceutical segregated container and disposafe safety box, 2) janitor, aide and health centre officer were responsible for the collecting activities, however, the unavailability of the SOP has made many important processes were not running well, such as not wearing personal protection, multiple-time use of plastic bags, irregular picking up time and 28,6% occupational accidents, 3) the transportation activities are carried out by the third party, nonetheless the collecting time did not comply with the MOU.
