Abstract
Introduction: Preoperative anxiety occurs in patients who will undergo elective anesthetic and surgical procedures. Benson relaxation therapy is a distraction technique that can be used because this technique can reduce anxiety physiologically. Benson therapy can suppress the sympathetic nervous system which is involved with decreasing the body's stress response. benzene triggers the brain to release endorphins, increases dopamine levels, and helps increase feelings of well-being. Objective: To know the effect of administering benson relaxation therapy to orthopedic preoperative patients at IBS Academic Hospital, Gadjah Mada University. This study used a quasi-experimental study that aimed to determine differences in the anxiety levels of preoperative orthopedic patients before and after administration of benson therapy in the treatment group and patients accompanied by their families in the control group. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design. In this study, the group pre-test and post-test with control were used. Patients were given a pretest and posttest using the APAIS measurement scale, in the treatment group the Benson therapy treatment was carried out. The sample in this study was 25 respondents in the treatment group and 25 respondents in the control group. Data collection was carried out in May 2023. Results: The results of data collection were processed using the Wilcoxon test with a significant α = 0.05. there were differences in anxiety in both the treatment group and the control group. The Mann Whitney test results obtained Sig. 0.000 (<0.05) so that Ha is accepted Conclusion: There is an effect of giving benson relaxation therapy on anxiety in preoperative orthopedic patients at IBS Academic Hospital, Gadjah Mada University.
