Abstract

Background:The oral and dental health is a part of physical health. The disrupted oral and dental health can be a sign of other health problems. One reason for ignoring the dental and oral health problems is the lack of knowledge about dental and oral hygiene. The dental and oral hygiene is an important factor for the dental and oral health in order to be free from disease. The elementary-school-age children are vulnerable to the case of dental and oral health thus they need more attention.Research Objective:To figure out the overview of the knowledge of teeth brushing and the status of OHI-S on elementary school students.Research Method:This is a cross-sectional descriptive research. This research was conducted at SD MuhammadiyahSangonan IV (Sangonan IV Muhammadiyah Elementary School) on January to February 2019. The sample collecting technic used was the purposive sampling technic, with the total respondents of 87 students. Research Results:The results showed that the knowledge of teeth brushing was on the good criterion (96.1%), and the status of OHI-S was on the medium criterion (51.0%).Conclusion:The 3rd grade students of SD MuhammadiyahSangonan IV (Sangonan IV Muhammadiyah Elementary School) had the good knowledge of teeth brushing, and the medium status of OHI-S which was (51.0%).
