Abstract

ABSTRACT Depression ranks fourth in the world as a cause of disease and by the year 2020, it is projected to reach second place. The adolescences are population groups that need attention. Levels of depression in adolescents pregnancy is about 20-40% and postpartum depression in adolescents is 19-50%. Postpartum depression can affect the interaction between mother and baby. Risk factor for postpartum depression is depressed during pregnancy, there is koping difficulty and negative emotions experience after childbirth. Almost all of the adolescents experiencing psychological pressure coming from unpreparedness of their psychosocial to assume the role and responsibilities as future parents. The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between the adolescents pregnancy and the occurrence of postpartum depression. This research used cross sectional study design with incidental sampling technique. The sample in this research were 80 respondents. Retrieving data with sociodemographic questionnaire and the Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data analysis using chi-square, Fisher’s Exact Test and logistic regression. The results of statistical analysis showed that the variables associated with postpartum depression were adolescents pregnancy (p=0.001), and the type of delivery (p=0.005). The unrelated variable were parity (p=0.38), the level of education (p=0.345) and marital status (p=0.3).
