Abstract

Background : Dental caries is a disease that experienced by childrens and adults caused by brushing teeth incorrectly, consuming cariogenic foods, and consuming less fibrous foods. Purposes : This research aims to describe the causes of dental caries and dental caries status. Methods: This researches is a descriptive with cross sectional design. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique. Data management used is cross tab. The research was conducted in VII F grade on 19 February 2019 in 1 Pengasih Kulon progo Junior High school. Results : The causes of caries were included in the bad criteria that is 19 respondents (58,4%), and dental caries status in moderate criteria that is 13 respondents (40,6%). Respondents with 13 years old and the causes of caries were included in the bad criteria is 15 respondents (65,2%). Female respondents with the causes of caries were included in the bad criteria is 10 respondents (55,6%). Respondents with 13 years old and dental caries status included in moderate ceiteria is 9 respondents (39,1%). Female respondents with dental caries status included in the moderate criteria is 9 respondents (50%). The results of cross tab showed the most of the causes of caries included in bad criteria and dental caries status included in bad criteria that is 11 respondents (34,4%). Conclusion : Most Junior High School students have factors that causes caries in bad criteria that is 19 students (58,4%) and dental caries status in moderate criteria that is 13 students (40,6%).
